UPS, FedEx and DHL: what dimensions, weight and packing details are needed for crate or pallet shipment review?
Measure the finished outer package and each piece’s actual gross weight, then describe the pallet or crate, stackability, forklift access and securing method. Evidence supports review; it does not promise acceptance, price or transit time.
A product’s net weight or pre-crating dimensions are not enough to assess a crated or palletized shipment. FedEx’s public packing guidance says pallets should support the load and crates should suit the item’s weight with secure internal packing. Actual carriage remains subject to lane, carrier and cargo review.

Crating, pallets, corner protection, stretch wrap and bracing can change both size and weight. Give final length, width, height and gross weight for every piece—not bare-product measurements or an estimate. For multiple pieces, state whether each is identical. Final chargeable weight may still change after carrier measurement and routing review.
Match the pallet or crate to the load
FedEx’s published guidance highlights adequate pallet strength and crates suited to the cargo weight, with cushioning, blocking or bracing to reduce movement. State the pallet material, crate type, overhang, stackability, forklift openings and any loose, wet, damaged or sharp external condition.
Use photos that show handling reality
Provide clear photos of front, sides, top, base, label area and restraint points; photograph protrusions separately. Show the finished pack, straps or wrap, corner protection and forklift access. Product images or pre-pack photos do not replace a pre-handover check of the finished shipment.
Verify wooden packaging against the destination
Solid-wood pallets and crates can be subject to destination phytosanitary or import requirements. Do not assume every crate is suitable or that a mark guarantees acceptance. State origin, destination, whether solid wood is used and any marking or document already available for route-specific review.
Add cargo details for heavy or reviewed goods
For machinery, chemical materials, powders, cosmetics or pastes, provide exact description, use, quantity, value, destination and applicable SDS/MSDS or packaging evidence. Full details support review but do not guarantee collection, fixed pricing, timing or clearance.

FAQ
Can I request a quote with only total weight?
It can start a discussion, but crated and palletized shipments normally also need final dimensions and gross weight per piece to assess handling and chargeable weight.
Is a pallet always stackable?
No. Stackability depends on the goods, packing strength, shape, carrier operation and actual review; describe it truthfully.
Does a crate make special cargo acceptable?
No. A crate is only packaging. Special cargo still needs item, composition, SDS/MSDS, destination and carrier-scope review.
